ACTIVITY 1
Agenda:
1. Check the attendance
2. Answer the questions: How are you? what activities have you done during the quarantine? 
If you don´t know how to say something in English ask the question: Teacher, how do you say in English...?

Topic: Purpose clauses (frases que expresan un propósito).

Goal: To learn how to express the purpose of an action using the expressions so that, in order to, to, so as to and so as not to


1. Practice the pronunciation and the meaning in Spanish of the following expressions:


  • So that: de modo que, a fin de que.
  • In order to: para (formal, written English)
  • to: para (informal, in speaking)
  • So as to: para (formal)
  • So as not to: para no (formal)


2. Watch the following video until minute 1:13 about purpose clauses:


3. Participe reading some phrases form the video and translate them into Spanish

4. Go to page 19 on your English book , number 5 and translate into Spanish the five sentences about sports.



Example: 

We do yoga so that we can have  a physical and mental balance (nosoros hacemos yoga de modo que nosotros podamos tener un equilibrio físico y mental) 

5. Complete the following phrases on page 19, number 6 of your English book


Example: I study English in order to travel to U.S.A


6. Go to page 20 and do exercise 7.

Topic: Modal Verb "have to" to express obligation  

Goal: To learn how to express obligation  using the modal verb "have to".

1. Read the following information about the modal verb "have to".


Have to

Se usa "have to" para mostrar que una persona está obligada a hacer algo, por lo general debido a una fuerza externa, "have to" también se puede usar para expresar opinión:
  • You have to show your passport at passport control.
    (It's the law = Es la ley)
  • Jenny has to do homework every evening.
You have to tell him!
(Esta es mi opinión (firme)

En frases negativas have to sirve para expresar la ausencia de una obligación o la no necesidad de hacer algo. La traducción al español sería no hace falta que o no tienes que.
  • You don’t have to eat that if you don’t like it.
    (I am not obliging you to eat it = No te estoy obligando a que lo comas).
  • I don´t have to do exercise number 5, my teacher said it is not necessary because I already understood the topic ( yo no tengo que hacer el ejercicio numero 5, my profesora me dijo que no es necesario porque ya entendí el tema).
